After a month in China and 10 days in the Big
Apple – I’m back in Florida. Might as well have
stayed in New York – as it’s colder here than it
was there.
Even so, that didn’t stop me from getting up early,
going outdoors and taking in some healthy fresh air
while I did my daily exercises.
Afterward I came back inside, did my Theatre of the
Mind exercises – http://psycho-cybernetics.com/zrlcourse.html
– then started to sift through a stack of emails.
Let me answer a couple today. Here’s the first:
“Hi Matt this is Bobby from Vegas I have been training with Combat
Conditioning, Gama Fitness, and Primate Power for about 1
year now, since then I’m 12-1 in Brazilian jiu jitsu matches.
I have one question. I prepare myself before a tournament with
Gama Fitness – lesson 8 cardio #1 & #2 with the power wheel
also 10 uphill sprints for speed, do you think it is necessary to
also run long distance for lets say 3- 10 min. black belt matches”
MJF: If I were you I’d keep doing the sprints and the Power Wheel
training in Lesson 8. You could add some longer bursts if you’d
like – 30 seconds to 45 seconds. Other than that, I would do
Noah’s Ark instead of long distance running. It’ll do more for
your grappling game when you really need it. Do you have
climbing ropes at your school. If so, work those in as well.

Subject: 120,000 Hindu Squats!!
Message: Hello Everyone and Happy New Year ~ I haven’t done
any posting on this site before, but just have to strut my stuff
a little bit by announcing that I just finished my 120,000th
Hindu Squat for 2007 and have achieved my goal for this year.
Also completed 10,000 Hindu pushups. Matthew’s recent DVD
called “Deep Inside the Royal Court” helped me a lot. I have
been able to improve my form on both the squats and pushups,
and have been able to increase the intensity of the squats and
get them done in less time than I was before. I feel terrific and
am looking forward to 2008. Now my question: I’d like to branch
out next year and do less squats (probably back to 100,000) and
add a few more exercises for variety. I don’t have a lot of time to
work out though, so what other exercises can you recommend
that will pack as much punch as the squats but not take much
more time? I live on a hill so I’m thinking maybe hill sprints, but
would also like an indoor alternative for all the times I’m on the
road. Any recommendations will be appreciated.
Wishing you all a happy, healthy and prosperous 2008!!
Best,
Susan
P.S. Just celebrated my 56th birthday in December, so not bad for
an “old lady!”
MJF: Susan, my hair is off to you. Fabulous job on the Hindu squats.
Adding the hill sprints is a very good idea. I would also do Tablemakers
and Kneeling Back Bends. You don’t need to do them for high reps.
I would concentrate more on the internal part of these two exercises.
You can ask me about what I mean in more depth when you’re in
Tampa later this month. See you soon.
Well, you gotta love the success my students are having, eh.
Be back soon with an update on The Trump Card. If you haven’t sent
an email requesting a copy – be sure to do so.
