Had a friend bring the new i-phone to China –
and although it’s not supposed to work over
here – he found a way to get and receive email,
make and receive phone calls as well as send
text messages.
It’s one helluva gadget and I have one ready for
action when I return to the U.S.
I enjoy new technology and what it can do to help
you in business as well as add enjoyment to your
life. At the same time I am not naive to the fact
that these gadgets can be a double-edged sword.
One of the things that helped me immensely in my
business was the day I decided to no longer be a
slave to the phone. Later on I made another decision
to be the master of email: by this I mean sending it
for my business as well as knowing when to read it
and still get everything done that relates to my goals.
Many, many people are slaves to their cell phones and
email. If the cell phone rings they feel compelled to
answer it- or at bare minimum check the voice mail
to see who it was and what the message was about.
Same goes with email. People are reading it and replying
to it all day long.
Nothing wrong with either of the above except that “the
flow” is continually interrupted. If you’re the type of person
who needs to focus and concentrate in order to get MORE
done in LESS time – then the constant barrage of calls and
emails interferes with your success – and it would be a wise
idea to make a decision to be the one in charge.
For many the ring of the cell phone or the chime of “you’ve
got mail” created a Pavlovian reaction. As soon as the ring or
chime sounds you salivate and begin reading or answering –
just the same as the dog desiring food when the dinner bell
rings.
Yet, there is a way to bypass Pavlov and create new reaction
patterns and responses based upon what you want to accomplish
with your life. You have the power within you to change the mental
picture from “must react” to “it can wait.”
