What if you had a mental picture of everything that ever happens
to you, somehow contributing to your success?
Take one of my mentors and coaches, Dan Gable, for example, who
once said, “I shoot, I score. He shoots, I score.”
Think of this. This is the mindset, not only of a 1972 Olympic wrestling
champion – but of the man who coached the University of Iowa team
to 15 NCAA team titles in 21 seasons.
This is an example of a mental movie in which you do not see anything
someone else does as contributing to your failure. Only to your success.
You see yourself coming out ahead from everything that happens.
Everything is for the good. Everything and everyone contributes to your
success.
Instead of fearing another’s attacks, you see them as helping you advance.
Instead of viewing someone as a competitor – you see him as someone
helping you win. This doesn’t mean that you’re buddy-buddy with those out
to harm you. It just means that instead of blaming them – you see them as
helping you prevail.
“If you’re afraid to fail, you’ll never succeed,” said Gable.
How true.
Focus your mind on success and you’ll get more of it. Make sure that all the
mental snapshots you think upon today are success oriented rather than
failure oriented.
