Hope in Beijing

Last November I consulted with a lady who competed in Atlanta, in Sydney and in Athens as a Paralympian – i.e. an Olympian who is not 100% “able bodied.”

The woman’s name: Hope Lewellen. Her goal: to be in her 4th Paralympic games this September in Beijing.

Her sport: sitting volleyball.

Thing is that Hope would be 41 years old if she qualified for the team – and her upper body was thrashed from years of weight training and other exercises.

She began doing Combat Conditioning because it made sense to her that bodyweight exercises were what she needed for greater strength and endurance -not weights. Within a short period of time using the exercises I gave her she felt much better – but she wanted a specialized program, so she came to see me.

I worked with her for a couple hours and filmed the routine I gave her. Members of the Matt Furey Inner Circle received a copy of the DVD.

Months later Hope’s body was in better shape than before – and when all the qualifying rounds were over, she found herself fulfilling her goal of being in a 4th Paralympic Games.

I’ve been checking to see how she and the other U.S. athletes are doing to beihing2008.com.

I watched the opening ceremonies last night on a Chinese channel we have playing in our home. Once again, just like the Olympic Games held last month – they were incredible. The stadium was packed. It has to be the ultimate thrill for Hope to be there – and I’m rooting for her and the U.S. Women’s team to win it all.

BTW, if you’d like to see Hope’s profile you can go here.

In honor of Hope and the other athletes, I’m going to reopen my inventory blowout special for a couple days. Go here and grab some product at half off the normal amount.

Best,

Matt Furey
