For the past seven years, I’ve been involved in what I like to call an unannounced ‘meditative’ retirement.
Beginning with a detached retina in August of 2007, which required surgery, I gradually cut waaaay back on my involvement in business and began to look at life with a different set of eyes.
I had many valid reasons to do so. Here they are:
1. Taking time off was good for my overall health. Instead of my first priority being everyone else – which is NOT what I taught my students – I really did put myself first. Instead of beginning the day with a race to send out an email or create a new product – I began it with my own training. Instead of feeling “I must do this” and “I must do that” – I allowed myself to relax.
“I must do nothing,” I said to myself, and I challenged myself to remain happy and have peace of mind even if all I did was stretch and breathe.
Sounds a bit odd, I know, but that’s where I was. Instead of thinking you can only be happy when you’re busy, busy, busy – instead of thinking that you can only be happy when you’re constantly pressing the envelope – I did the opposite. I challenged myself to be happy when I did almost nothing but study and train in other areas of interest.
2. Taking time off allowed me to spend more with my wife and children. I often said to myself, “If I have time to give everyone else some of my wisdom (or whizdum) – I better make sure I pass the grand majority of it on to my son and daughter.” Yes, this is still a work in progress – but at least my children have a decent understanding of the “mental game.”
3. Although not initially by conscious esign, taking time off gave me the space to be with my Mother, who was saying a “long goodbye” with the onset of Alzheimers. Two years prior to her passing, my Father and I moved her to a home where she could receive full-time care. And my Dad, just like a young boy who began courting, would call me everyday and ask if I’d drive him to see his lady. I’m happy to say that 90% of the time I was able to do so.
It was rough at times. It’s not easy going to see the Mother who gave you birth, who gradually loses yet another chunk of her brain. First she could no longer cook or clean; then could no longer bathe herself; then could no longer get dressed or comb her hair; then could no longer walk; then could no longer remember your name; then could no longer feed herself; then could no longer do much of anything but sit and wait.
I’m thankful that the ONLY thing my Mother never forgot was her SMILE. Even after she’d taken her final breath and her heart was done beating, a positive expression was still upon her face.
For well over 18 months, I’ve been telling myself that “I’m coming back.” Why? Because I see people who are not only totally out of shape – but they’re being given the exact opposite approach and advice of what I know and believe is a much better way.
The more I see all the misinformation out there, the more I say to myself, “Fure-cat, you gotta come back and start teaching fitness again – but do it with ALL the new information you have. Do it in a way that gives people far more than ripped muscles. Give them the quiet, calm strength they want and need.”
Coming back sort of started with the release of Theatre of the Mind in February – but even with that – I was still straddling two whirlds. One of meditative retirement – the other of being fully engaged teaching health and longevity exercises.
I realized over the summer that I was NEVER really going to be OUT of my CAVE until I began teaching all I’ve learned and studied over the past seven years.
I said to myself, “There’s a lot more to Combat Conditioning than the physical exercises. You don’t do any of the exercises in your book the way you used to do them. And they’re much more powerful and effective the way you do them now. Plus you’ve got a TON that you’ve NEVER taught anyone. Especially the stuff you learned in China. Start putting it out there.”
Last night the transition from “meditative retirement” to being back into teaching health, longevity and fitness was carved upon the walls of my cave when my all-new site went live.
Over the next 12 months, all my Members are going to be continually in AWE of all the wonders they’re going to behold in their minds and bodies.
Without a shred of doubt or uncertainty, I can honestly say, if you’re not a Member – you’re going to miss out in a big way. Missing what I’m now beginnng to teach, as well as what I’ve already taught – could very well represent one of the biggest missed opportunities of your lifetime.
If you want health, if you want longevity, if you want a body that’s free of aches and pain, if you want peace of mind through movement – then you owe it to yourself to become a part of the Matt Furey Inner Circle right NOW.
Go get the details on this extraordinary offer right quick. You’ll be forever grateful you did.
Yours,
Matt “Coach” Furey
P.S. Oh yeah, so you know, I was up early this morning and training whilst most of the country slept. I took care of myself first – just as I’m advising you to do.
