Here’s the secret to avoiding exercise: Tell yourself that
you don’t have the time – any time – or enough time.
Blame it on time. Not on yourself or your ability to manage
your time.
Blame it on time. Not on how well you plan and organize
your life.
Time is always to blame. Never you.
I met a guy who wants to write a book – but according to him
he doesn’t have any time. Between the stress of work and the
responsibilities at home, there’s not a second left.
Or so he says.
One day I came by his home and asked if he had time to go for
a walk. He immediately dropped everything he was doing and
went for a one-hour jaunt with me. During the jaunt I did most
of the talking – mostly so there was no time for him to tell me how
he doesn’t have any time write his book.
At the end of the walk, without me saying a word about his book,
he said, “Man, I’m feeling really good now. I’m going to go inside
and work on my book. I won’t be able to sleep for at least a couple
of hours, so I can use this time to do something creative.”
I nodded and walked back to my home.
The above is not an isolated event in my life. I’ve done this with many
people to “test” if their “song and dance” is true to form. It isn’t.
It’s pure bull-crap.
People often ask me, “How do you accomplish so much. How do you
manage to get so much done. Don’t you ever sleep.”
I’m always surprised by these comments as I’m not thinking about
what I did – I’m thinking about what I want to DO.
Even though I put the word “DO” in upper case – the key word in the
previous sentence is “want.”
If you WANT to do something – you’ll find a way to do it. It all boils
down to desire. How strong is your desire.
I like to encourage people to begin their exercise program with one-
minute of walking or calisthenics. Just one minute. That’s all.
Anyone can find a minute. And then another – and another – and another.
But it starts with ONE – the one you have right now.
So tell your friend to get off his arse and do something. Don’t listen to his
“song and dance” about not having time. If it’s a priority, he’ll make time.
And there’s no easier way to find the time than the program I’ve mapped
