New Year – New Abs

Friday, January 4th, 2008

I’m sure you’ve seen the ads for ‘eight minute abs.’

Then seven minute. Then six. And so on.

Sounds absolutely ludicrous, doesn’t it. Especially

if, as I mentioned before, you’ve developed an

idea that a workout should take a long, long time for

it to be effective. Simply not true.

As the saying goes, ‘T’aint how big the dog is in

the fight – tis how much fight there is in the dog.’

Same goes for how you train. It’s not how long – it’s

what you put into the time.

The truth is that you don’t need a 30-minute abdominal

workout each day, as some people think. You simply

need to give your abs the training they need.

There are many ways to accomplish this. One way is to do

the Farmer Burns deep breathing exercise, as taught in

Combat Abs – http://www.mattfurey.com/combat_abs.html

In this exercise you integrate deep breathing with isometric

contractions – and each one lasts 3 to 6 seconds.

The Farmer Burns Stomach Flattener alone – which I learned

in his 1914 by-mail course, ‘Lesson in Wrestling and Physical

Culture’ – http://www.mattfurey.com/farmerburns.html

when done for about 9 reps per day – which will take you a

couple minutes, will do more for your midsection than

virtually anything else.

The Farmer Burns deep breathing exericise is just

one of seven exercises that comprise ‘The Magnificent

Seven’ of Combat Abs – http://www.mattfurey.com/combat_abs.html

Altogether, you can blast through the entire routine in a matter of

minutes. The routine will make you stronger and more limber throughout

your core and tighten your midsection in a big way.

If you haven’t already gotten this program, there’s no time like NOW

to get on the stick.

For more information on this program be sure to

visit http://www.mattfurey.com/combat_abs.html

One last thing: Don’t forget about your bridging. The

bridge is a superb exercise, not just for strengthening

the neck and back – but for making your abs like granite.

Well, my friend, that’s all for now.

Kick butt – take names,

Life in Cold, Freezing Florida

Thursday, January 3rd, 2008

After a month in China and 10 days in the Big

Apple – I’m back in Florida. Might as well have

stayed in New York – as it’s colder here than it

was there.

Even so, that didn’t stop me from getting up early,

going outdoors and taking in some healthy fresh air

while I did my daily exercises.

Afterward I came back inside, did my Theatre of the

Mind exercises – http://psycho-cybernetics.com/zrlcourse.html

– then started to sift through a stack of emails.

Let me answer a couple today. Here’s the first:

“Hi Matt this is Bobby from Vegas I have been training with Combat

Conditioning, Gama Fitness, and Primate Power for about 1

year now, since then I’m 12-1 in Brazilian jiu jitsu matches.

I have one question. I prepare myself before a tournament with

Gama Fitness – lesson 8 cardio #1 & #2 with the power wheel

also 10 uphill sprints for speed, do you think it is necessary to

also run long distance for lets say 3- 10 min. black belt matches”

MJF: If I were you I’d keep doing the sprints and the Power Wheel

training in Lesson 8. You could add some longer bursts if you’d

like – 30 seconds to 45 seconds. Other than that, I would do

Noah’s Ark instead of long distance running. It’ll do more for

your grappling game when you really need it. Do you have

climbing ropes at your school. If so, work those in as well.

This one from the http://MattFureyInnerCircle.com forum –

Subject: 120,000 Hindu Squats!!

Message: Hello Everyone and Happy New Year ~ I haven’t done

any posting on this site before, but just have to strut my stuff

a little bit by announcing that I just finished my 120,000th

Hindu Squat for 2007 and have achieved my goal for this year.

Also completed 10,000 Hindu pushups. Matthew’s recent DVD

called “Deep Inside the Royal Court” helped me a lot. I have

been able to improve my form on both the squats and pushups,

and have been able to increase the intensity of the squats and

get them done in less time than I was before. I feel terrific and

am looking forward to 2008. Now my question: I’d like to branch

out next year and do less squats (probably back to 100,000) and

add a few more exercises for variety. I don’t have a lot of time to

work out though, so what other exercises can you recommend

that will pack as much punch as the squats but not take much

more time? I live on a hill so I’m thinking maybe hill sprints, but

would also like an indoor alternative for all the times I’m on the

road. Any recommendations will be appreciated.

Wishing you all a happy, healthy and prosperous 2008!!

Best,

Susan

P.S. Just celebrated my 56th birthday in December, so not bad for

an “old lady!”

MJF: Susan, my hair is off to you. Fabulous job on the Hindu squats.

Adding the hill sprints is a very good idea. I would also do Tablemakers

and Kneeling Back Bends. You don’t need to do them for high reps.

I would concentrate more on the internal part of these two exercises.

You can ask me about what I mean in more depth when you’re in

Tampa later this month. See you soon.

Well, you gotta love the success my students are having, eh.

Be back soon with an update on The Trump Card. If you haven’t sent

an email requesting a copy – be sure to do so.

Who is ‘the BIG SELF’

Thursday, January 3rd, 2008

Great email came through the pipeline yesterday.

A man who has read a lot of Zen stuff – but hasn’t

really lived it – chided me for being a “self-proclaimed

Zen Master.”

I couldn’t help but wonder if the man knows what

“self” means.

Moreover, what is the BIG SELF. Or “who” is the Big

Self.

And then, is there really any other way to become

anything other than through self-proclamation.

Sure, you can wait for someone to knight you or appoint

you – but none of the great men or women in history ever

waited for such a moment – nor did they care. They recognized

who they were and went with it.

Not only that, but anyone who was ever appointed, certified

or voted into anything – first and foremost, still had to see himself

there first. You don’t land anywhere by accident. You get a

vision of what you want. You form a mental picture. Then you

put in the time practicing whatever it takes to become that

image.

If you do this long enough – your mental image will become a

reality.

Never forget, even the Buddha had to see himself as a Buddha –

otherwise – no Buddha.

Anytime anyone ever criticizes or condemns you for being

self-proclaimed, self-promoting – or any of those other jealous

terms – raise your hands in victory and shout “Hurrah.”

Anyone can be an idiot. Anyone can condemn what he doesn’t

know.

Conversely, anyone can discover his big self and turn his life into

a masterpiece.

Discovering your BIG SELF is not the same as “finding yourself.”

Those who go on a mission to find the self rarely ever do – and

if they do – they find the wrong one. They find the failure, the

loser, the stumbler and bumbler.

I teach people to discover a very different kind of self – a BIG SELF;

the part of you that knows success, happiness, peace of mind and

something more – and can have it at any time. The part of you that

believes he can do anything he sets his mind on.

You won’t find this self through study. You’ll only find it through

the experience you get from practice. And the desire for practice

comes from having the right mental image.

I’ll have more on this in my special report entitled, The Trump Card.

Make sure you send an email and make your request for it.

It’ll be out later this week.

New Year, New You

Wednesday, January 2nd, 2008

We’re on day two of the new year and I have a

double-sided challenge for you. As you grow

into a newer and better you – why not also

turn back the clock a number of years.

Why not reverse the aging process.

The other day I ate in a restaurant wherein a 70+

year old man with only one tooth waited on me.

He was an industrious fellow, polite as could be –

but also very quick to tell me, repeatedly, that he

was “old” and that he had a bad leg.

I pointed to my father-in-law – also in his 70’s,

who looks far younger and better and doesn’t

complain about being old. I said: “Look at my

father-in-law, he’s in his 70’s, too.”

The man’s facial expression turned to righteous

anger. “Different,” he said. “I have a bad leg and

I’m old and …”

At this point I let him ramble on. What’s the point

in trying to show him another WAY to look at life.

It’s like sprinkling fertilizer on artificial grass.

Most people don’t realize it but you can make

yourself look and feel younger – and you can

do it without plastic surgery.

Today let me reveal three ways to begin making yourself

younger:

1. Change your mental picture – your self-image, about your

age. Stop seeing yourself as old, as more and more useless.

Begin seeing yourself as young, vibrant and healthy. See

yourself having more energy – able to do and be more

than you are right now – http://psycho-cybernetics.com/zrlcourse.html

2. Exercise in reverse – I have an incredible program I put out

on this called “Dao Zou.” It’s much more than a program that

teaches you to walk backwards, though. It teaches you what

to do and what to think and how to breathe while moving in

reverse. Believe me, as strange as this may sound to you

right now – I guarantee if you follow this program for 33

days, you will be rewired in a way you cannot explain. You’ll

have more energy, you’ll be more relaxed and you’ll have

peace of mind – http://mattfurey.com/dao_zou.html

3. The Trump Card – In another day or two I’ll be revealing

more about turning back the clock and recreating the most

successful experiences of your life. I’ll do so in my special

report.

Our office has been flooded with requests for this report – so

make sure you are in line, too. You won’t want to miss out

on what I have to say.

Send an email to my office and put your request in today.

The Man Who Can’t Imagine Anything

Wednesday, January 2nd, 2008

Today I’m going to answer an email from a man

who says he cannot imagine. Glue your eyes to

the screen on this one:

Dear Matthew,

My name is L and am reading The book The New Psycho-

Cybernetics.

I like it very much and want to adhere to everything –

but I have a problem. In 1992 I had an accident and

I fell on my head on concrete from 6 meters and I

lost 100 % my sense of smell, taste and I can not

imagine or visualize anything because all my front

lobe is damaged.

I have more injuries from that fall but they are not so

relevant as the above. As well I have diabeties insipidus,

my Pituary gland is damaged. I’d like to have back my

imagination.

I have dreams and can see people in them and remember some.

I’d like to ask for an advice what to do to get back my imagination,

because you write in your book about the imagination and visualization.

When I close my eyes I see only dark and as hard as I want I cannot visualize,

please help if you can.

Thank you very much.

Regards,

L

Hello L,

Thanks so much for writing. Let me begin with the obvious:

I am not a medical doctor and cannot give medical advice

on your situation. All I can do is take some mental pictures

of your words and reflect them back to you to see if something

makes sense to you. So let me begin.

In order to have written the email you sent to me you had to

imagine it first. In order to have bought the book, The New

Psycho-Cybernetics, you had to see a mental picture of

yourself doing this first. This means you had to imagine it.

I understand that when you close your eyes and try to imagine

that everything is dark and you cannot come up with anything.

Fair enough. But somehow or other you are able to do so

with your eyes open – otherwise we wouldn’t be corresponding

right now.

Moreover, your memory appears to be in good shape as you

described your condition with a fair amount of detail.

So here’s what I think you can do: Instead of closing your eyes

to imagine or visualize – keep them open. This is a valid and

powerful way to imagine. I use it often and teach it in my

coaching programs. The idea that you must close your eyes

to imagine or visualize is totally wrong. All great athletes

must imagine with eyes open. Same goes with all writers,

artists, and so on.

In fact, all people visualize and imagine with their eyes

open most of the day. Therefore, I think you’re fine.

Craft some goals for yourself on paper then read and

reread them each day with your eyes open. See what

you want. Imagine you already have it – and then watch

how your world opens to bigger and better things.

Also, make sure you send an email to my office about

getting a copy of The Trump Card – a special report I’m

putting out in a day or two.

Make it a great 2008.

Dropping the New Years Ball

Tuesday, January 1st, 2008

What a ride last night. Waiting til the clock

tolled 12 midnight along with about a million

others. Awesome to say the least.

The last time I stayed up through New Years

was 1999, when I rang in the New Millenium

was a couple thousand bodyweight squats,

aka Hindu squats.

Last night was special because eight years ago

my wife, Zhannie, was pregnant with our son,

Frank. And Frank was up with us last night,

through it all. The three of us held each other as

the final seconds of 2007 ticked away. What

a rush.

If you set your goals for 2008 before last night

that is a good thing. Now it’s a matter of being

focused each day and making sure you have the

right information and right coaches and mentors

before you – to help you go where you want

FASTER.

It would be a horrible mistake to try to go it alone.

Years ago I learned the following phrase from

Dr. Robert Schuller – “I need help – I can’t do it

alone.”

The misinformed, arrogant, and ego-driven think

they can go it alone and succeed at a high level. Not

possible. The greatest achievers throughout history

had mentors and advisors and coaches and this will

NEVER change.

Show me a man who thinks there’s no secret knowledge,

that he doesn’t need advice, coaching or help in anyway –

that success is nothing but hard, hard work – and I’ll

show you someone with a closed mind. Success is ALL

about discovering what you didn’t know before, applying

it and continuing to be open to and listen to those who

have knowledge you don’t possess or are afraid to apply

properly.

Anything you do not know that someone else does – is a

SECRET to you.

Anything that someone else knows that you wish you knew –

is a secret to you.

Don’t you think there are 31 NFL head coaches who’d like to

know what Bill Bellicek knows about getting a team united

around a vision. How about getting a Randy Moss to shut

up and put up. No other coach was able to accomplish that

one.

How’d he do it. Do you know the answer. If not, you cannot

duplicate his success.

I guarantee the answer to getting Moss to play the way he is

is NOT “hard, hard work.” First his mind had to be captured.

No one has been able to do that before.

Hmm.

Over the past 30 years I have studied the most successful men

and women in history, and believe me, they knew things that

the less successful did not know.

Are you making sure you’re learning what you need to do to

make it bigger than ever before.

Chances are excellent you’re doing some of the right things –

but not all. Chances are that you haven’t focused the way

you know you’re capable of. Chances are the one big thing

holding you back is fear. You can be seven feet tall and weigh

pounds. You can be strong as a bear – but if you look at all

the areas where you’re stuck – you suddenly feel seven inches

tall. You’re not such a big shot when confronted with the

things you feel incompetent in.

In a couple days I’m going to release my special report, The Trump

Card. Make sure you get a copy. There’s no charge. It’ll reveal the

secret to making all your goals and dreams become a reality.

It’ll lay out a very cut n dried case for what you need to do to

make your life into the masterpiece you’d like it to be. It’ll lay

out the method for you to eliminate fear, worry, arrogance

and other negative habit patterns from your life.

To make sure you get in first in line for your copy – send me

an email and we’ll put you on the list.

More coming very soon. Get ready for the best year of your

life.
