‘The secret of success boils down to one word: hard work.’
Umm, sir, that’s two words. And neither of them are true.
Let me give you the true scoop on being a successful human
being. It’s PRACTICE. It is not work. It is most assuredly not
‘hard work.’
Work is a dirty word – and it’s a good idea to eliminate it from your vocabulary.
‘Honey, I have a lot of work to do.’
Uggh. That one NEVER plays well to my wife. Does it to yours?
No one wants to hear about how hard you have to work. And
it’s not because work is wrong. Work, in and of itself is fine
and admirable. But it is a dirty word when compared to the
glory of practice; the joy of practice. Even hard, vigorous, sweat-producing practice.
We practice doing the things we love to do. We love to practice that which brings us peace of mind and joy.
So stop working and start practicing. Catch yourself using the words “work” and “hard work” and substitute them with practice.
You’ll find yourself using them a lot, me thinks. So don’t make work out of
this fact. Simply practice catching yourself using the word “work” and say, “Aha,
I caught myself again.”
Then substitute the Zen Master’s word – practice.
Practice success 1,000 times and you’ll be on a roll. Practice 10,000 times and
you’ll be attracting it to you like mosquitoes to human flesh. Practice 100,000
times and you’ll come full circle – realizing that the first time you practiced and the
100,000 time are the same.

A couple days ago I received best-selling novelist Barry Eisler’s latest, Requiem for an Assassin in the mail. Inside the cover Barry wrote the following:
Matt,
Now you’ve got Rain and Dax doing Combat Conditioning …Thanks for teaching it to them (and me).
Barry Eisler
Once again, Barry also mentioned me on his acknowledgments page. I think I’ve made six of his seven novels. Is that cool or what?
If you haven’t read any of the Eisler novels, NOW is a good time to change that. These books are translated into multiple languages right out of the gate – and they hold the reader spell bound from start to finish.
So follow what the top names in the writing and entertainment and sports fields are doing. Read Barry Eisler novels and join his main character, John Rain, in a daily dose of Hindu pushups, squats and more.

‘Deep breathing alone has made many a weak man strong
and many a sick man well.’
These words come from the immortal teachings of Martin
‘Farmer’ Burns in his 1914 by-mail course, ‘Lessons in
Wrestling and Physical Culture’ – available at
http://www.mattfurey.com/farmerburns.html – but they
could have just as easily come from the ancient Samurai of
Japan – or the old-time Jiu-Jitsu masters.
For example, in a 1911 book on Japanese exercise methods
that I read many years ago, I recorded the following:
‘The ancient samurai was accustomed to going out
into the open air as soon as he rose in the morning. There he
devoted at least 10 or 15 minutes to continued deep breathing,
standing with his hands on his hips in order that he might feel
the play of his muscles.’
Breathing in the open air was also recommended by Farmer Burns
as well early American fitness pioneers such as Charles Atlas, Bernarr
MacFadden and Paul Bragg. These men truly knew what they were
talking about.
Today, in most fitness programs taught around the world, deep breathing
is practically ignored. This is a major mistake as, to quote one of my former
teachers, ‘Your breath is your power.’
You can tell a lot about a person simply by observing how he or she breathes.
In fact, I believe you can map out the structure of how the person lives life.
Shallow breathers tend to be shallow people. Deep breathers tend to be
interested in far more than the superficial.
The sound a person makes when breathing, especially while exercising, is
also revealing. Does he or she have a problem with being seen or heard? You’ll
know by whether or not you can hear the person breathing. Does this person
breathe in a way that says, ‘life is a struggle’ – or in a way that shows how
they simply ‘flow?’
Maybe you’ve never paid much attention to the subject of deep breathing
before. For the first 25 years of my life I didn’t either. Yet, I assure you,
life is much better when you’re in tune with how you breathe.
Pay attention to your breathing. Make sure it is deep and full.
Spend 10-15 minutes per day working on it. You can do so while
performing the exercises in Combat Abs [for more about them go to
http://www.mattfurey.com/combat_abs.html ] – which are part deep
breathing and part abdominal flexing. You can make time for them
throughout the day, especially when you feel like you need a ‘breather.’
During those moments, never forget, your breath is your power.

P.S. One of the greatest things about the conditioning I teach is that
it gets you to breathe deeply, even if you don’t want to or don’t
know how. This alone is enough to do as Farmer Burns said, ‘Make
many a weak man (or woman) strong and many a sick man well.’

When you do things without fear, when you live in the present
moment, feeling the air around you and flowing into you as
you observe yourself living your dreams – that is when you
understand what Zero Resistance Living is all about.
It’s Fearless Doing.
It’s Zen.
I’m talking about enlightened, awakened and conscious living.
I’m talking about being so engrossed in the practice of something
that you are consciously lost in the moment. You’re more aware
than ever before – yet you’re less aware of details like time. There’s
no resistance to success in your mind, in your step or in your body.
You don’t think thoughts of “no can do.” You only think of what you
want – you see a mental snapshot of what you desire – and then it’s
FORWARD MARCH.
No second guessing. No worry. No fear. Only movement.
See what you want and move toward it. See what you want and move
IT toward you.
Never fear having to do something to get what you want.
The greatest masters were and always will be those
who can and will move, as often as necessary, to
get the job done.
And it almost immaterial what the movement is – so long as you
do it consciously, you can rise to the highest levels of living. You
attain a Zero Reistance state of mind by living in the moment
with passion, doing what you love to do.
You can be a vilonist, a painter, a sculpter or writer. You can be
a housewife, a physician, a teacher or pilot. You can campaign
for peace – or you can take up your sword and go to war.
All of these seemingly contradictory activities can lead to the
mountain top. All of these roles in life can charge your mind
and body or deplete it of vitality. The difference lies within
YOU.
Do you do what you do with a sense of panic, worry, fear or
guilt. Or do you do what you do completely free of these
unnecessary tensions.
Think about where you are and make a conscious choice to
dig deeper and climb higher. Practice everyday, without fail,
the things that lead to greatness.
Begin each day with deep breathing and visualization. Go into
the Theatre of Your Mind and see yourself at your best. Center
yourself. Breathe, relax and picture.
If you do this each day, you will begin feeling what
Zero Resistance means. You will feel as if you’re sliding
through life instead of getting beaten, battered and bruised.
Even when going through tough times – there is a level of
being in which you move without resistance. You gather
strength from life. You drink the nectar from all experiences.
The other day I was speaking to a man who asked me who my
teachers are. I said: “The entire world is my teacher.”
At first he was stunned to hear this – and so was I. So I made a
mental note – then a written one.
Observe yourself, hear what you say and learn from
it. Observe others, hear what they say and learn from
them.
Do this and you understand what it means to be pushed
through the day instead of “pushing” yourself through the
day.
Zero Resistance Living will show you how to do this. Pick up
a copy at http://www.psycho-cybernetics.com/zrlcourse.html

Last weekend was POWERFUL. On Friday and Saturday I met with my Gold MasterMind group – and Sunday info-tained my Psycho-Cybernetics Fearless Success Group. The breakthroughs that I and the others in the room witnessed were remarkable indeed.
For example, Bob and Makiho, of Tokyo, Japan, came to the meeting with their first product finished. This is their very first entrepreneurial venture – and In 10 days time they put together a package that I believe will sell like hot cakes all over the world. They wasted no time. They focused on what they wanted – a viable and prosperous online business, and they’ll have it. I will let you know more about their product when they have their website up and going. In the interim, the key moral of the story is “speed.”
When you have an idea, don’t sit around pondering it forever. Get it done and get it done fast.
If you’re writing a book, no doubt it takes a bit more time than if you’re recording a DVD or set of CDs because you need to edit. But another info-product is different – unless you insist on being scripted – something I am not in favor of for myself and most others.
The Psycho-Cybernetics program represents the place where I help people discover that they have the POWER to launch themselves to whatever they want in life. I began the day by telling the group that they were going to experience some major breakthroughs during the day – and breakthroughs they received.
I’ll show you two of the many, many comments sent to me afterward, but first, I want to direct your attention to another matter – and that is the grieving/mourning process so many go through when a loved one dies.
Last night I was forwarded an email from Paul, a Gold MasterMind member who could not attend the meeting as his mother passed away. Five days later he was still in a lot of pain and wrote me the following note (to be followed by my reply – both of which he gave me permission to use in the service of others):
Matthew,
My mom’s passing is hard for me.
I am not letting it stop me. I am following what you say and continue to daily visualize my goals. I do my breathing, I keep on moving.
I am refusing to tell myself the story that I have to be depressed or immobile (although that is the common story that society tells people).
But this pain is real.
You are one of the very, very few people I look up to and turn to for inspiration and reality-checks and stuff that works.
Do you have any advice at all on this? Would you even find it appropriate to use any of what you teach to assist in mourning a parent, dealing with this kind of loss?
I don’t even know if it would be respectful to my Mom to do so.
You are free to use any or all of this communication in your newsletters or emails if you think it would be of help to people.
If the subject is not appropriate, I apologize.
I am grasping for help wherever I can find it. If anyone could help with something PRACTICAl I think it would be you.
Paul
Paul,
I just rec’d your note from Carol. I know your love for your mother is great.
Key word “IS.”
She is still with you. Take time each day to talk to her. Tell her how much you love her – THANK her for everything valuable she taught you. There will be an instantaneous connection. You have lost nothing. Your mother is no longer in her body – but she is with you in memory and in spirit.
You can now celebrate the freedom you have to communicate with her. She’s trying to reach you now. Your genuine asking is a sign that you’re ready to rise above this and see her as always present rather than gone.
I am not recommending a seance or some other thing. This is genuine contact with your mother – by yourself – in privacy. Picture her in your mind and begin talking to her. Talk as long as you’d like – each day.
For the depression – inhale white into your lungs. Exhale black, cloudy negative energy. Picture a tiger a few feet in front of you as you inhale white. Keep in mind as you exhale dark. Inhale white and say internally “courage, confidence.” On the exhale of dark energy say internally “grief, sadness, depression.”
Do 6 breaths of this – and you will be clear. Then talk to your mom.
Do this everyday – for life if you so choose.
Let me know how this goes for you. I am in your corner.
Matthew
What I have described above is something I have recommended to several others, and in each and every case, these people thank me profusely. Never think, “Oh, I didn’t tell my mother or father enough about my love and appreciation for them before they died. It is NEVER too late. Spend time with them in the Theatre of The Mind and you cannot go wrong.
Now, onto a some feedback sent in by a husband and wife team. Let’s start with the woman.
Hi Matthew,
Firstly, I want you to know that your immense influence on my life is greater than any person, EVER. Your power to light the fire in my heart, and I mean the fire that conquers all perceived fears, is the gift of a lifetime.
Thank you.
Tania
And hear is what Tania’s husband Clayton wrote:
Dear Matthew,
Well, you did it again. Raised the bar for yourself and brought the rest of us up with you.
The ‘breakthrough’ you felt I would have at these meetings was beyond anything I could of imagined – no exaggeration.
On Sunday, while you were talking about the ‘big self’ I had an idea for a little walking meditation/visualization of my own. I did it today and found it to be every bit as wonderful as I expected.
BTW, the little healing you gave me was an experience I will never forget. Indeed it is impossible to put into words the value of such a thing.
May it be so.
Clayton Haslop
P.S. I also find the other human beings gathered around you to be extraordinary. I am blessed to be counted among them.
Well, my friend, I’ve got to start getting ready for my email seminar next weekend. Right now I have one more spot available. Seize it NOW – if you want it.

Today I took out my all-new Matt Furey Exercise Bible – cut the cards, shuffled them several times, then called my son, Frank, into the room for some father-son time. My 3-year old daughter, Faith, joined in to watch as I drew the first card and told Frank how many Hindu Pushups he had to do.
When he finished he drew a card for me and I cranked out a set of Hindu Squats.
On and on we went drawing cards and doing squats and pushups – as well as two other exercises, v-ups and tablemakers.
I first learned this type of training from the legendary Dan Gable who called it “pushup poker.” He’d deal a card and do the number of pushups on it, then peel the next card and so on until he’d gone through the entire deck. I learned a variation of it some years ago that involved Hindu pushups and Hindu squats – but the ULTIMATE variation is the way I have it laid out for you.
How do I know? I know because the four exercises I selected hit virtually everything in the body in the shortest amount of time humanly possible.
A lot of people have asked if they can purchase these cards – and the answer was initially “no” as I don’t have enough in stock. So I made a bargain with you last week, showing you how you could get a deck. Well, all the decks, as predicted, sold out very fast. So now its a matter of restocking them as quickly as I can.
There may be more on the way in a week or two. I’ll keep you posted. When they arrive I’ll also let you know my new way for you to get involved with this awesome workout.
Stay tuned!

I received a big shipment in the mail today. It was for an extraordinary deck of playing cards called the Matt Furey Exercise Bible.
If you look at the pic I have for you here, you’ve now got an idea about what I’m talking about. The deck of 52 cards and two jokers represents the very best and most portable body weight exercise routine you can follow.
You literally smack the entire body with this routine consisting of only four movements: Hindu Squats, Hindu Pushups, V-ups and Table-makers.
Simply deal a card and do the exercise depicted on the card along with the number of repetitions the card represents.
Believe me, this workout will whomp your buttocks and get you into shape super fast. Most importantly, it is fun, Fun, FUN.
Right now these decks are NOT for sale – but I will be coming up with a way wherein you can get one very soon. So sit on the edge of your seat, my friend. Expect some surprises.

The poet William Blake wrote these lines:
To see a world in a grain of sand,
And heaven in a wild flower,
Hold infinity in the palm of your hand,
And eternity in an hour.
If you’re a business person you may wonder if these lines apply to you. Same goes for those of you who are athletes. Sure, Blake’s words are nice for musicians, poets and those who meditate – but what about YOU?
I happen to think his lines apply to everyone of us.
For the entrepreneur: “To see a Universe of customers when looking at a product for the first time.”
For the athlete: “To see a championship the first time you learn a new technique.”
For the writer: “To hold infinite words in the palms of your hands.”
For the coach or teacher: “To experience eternity when sitting with a student to help him through a problem.”
For the doctor: “To see the soul of the sick.”
For the gardener: “To see an apple orchard from the very first seed.”
For each of us: “To have dozens of ways to look at the ‘same’ thing.”
Exercises for the imagination are more important than knowledge. You can spend an eternity learning facts and figures – and know them so well you miss the depth of each and every thing you learn. Yet, you could study a grain of sand for an eternity – concentrating on it, thinking of what it represents.
You could look at the first dollar you earned in business and see a fortune on the horizon. Or a fortune in your possession.
You can look at money you invested and see it multiplying. Or you can view it as “lost.”
You can give something valuable away and see good coming back to you in ten-fold streams – or you can imagine what you’ve given away as gone forever.
When you speak to someone you can imagine her good or bad. You can see a student as smart or dumb – or somewhere in between. You can view scars as marks of beauty or as grotesque and disgusting.
Imagination makes it so.
What do you see when you look at a grain of sand? There are infinite answers to this question.

Should you be taking vitamins? Or should you get ALL your nutrition from food and food based supplements? I prefer the latter for almost all my dietary needs. That’s why I’m always encouraging you to take supplements like pharmaceutical grade fish oil, berries, apples and other proven health enhancers.
In line with what I’ve previously written, today I have a piece for you from Dave Copeland of AppleBoost.com. I think what he has written will REALLY open your eyes. Read on and you’ll quickly discover why.
Matthew Furey
The Biggest Mistake in Nutritional Supplementation Today
by Dave Copeland
It’s one of the biggest mistakes in nutraceutical manufacturing today. Researchers identify a single vitamin or dietary phytochemical (DPC) that seems to protect against a particular disease, and then nutraceutical manufacturers crank out supplements whose only active ingredient is that isolated substance.
That’s like plucking Cal Ripken, Jr. away from the rest of the Baltimore Orioles, putting him up against an opposing all-star team … and expecting him to win the game single-handedly.
But baseball, real life, and real health don’t work that way. Biochemical processes are complex and synergistic. Take quercetin, the new darling of nutrition researchers. It’s found in high concentrations in apples, onions, and tea, but it’s also found in red grapes, broccoli, citrus, cherries and some kinds of berries. It acts as an anti-viral agent, an anti-inflammatory, and even an anti-cancer agent. But to bring out its superstar performance, it needs the help of other dietary phytochemicals.
In one telling experiment Dr. Rui Hai Liu, a leading nutrition researcher at Cornell University, demonstrated that as great as isolated quercetin is, it’s even more effective in combination with other naturally-occurring dietary phytochemicals.
Dr. Liu tested both isolated quercetin and whole-apple extract against human cancer cells. Both inhibited cancer cell growth, but the whole-apple extract was significantly more effective. In a second experiment with human liver cancer cells, Dr. Liu tested extracts from either peeled or unpeeled apples. The extract that included apple peel, where the dietary phytochemicals are much more concentrated, outperformed the unpeeled apple extract by 50%.
That’s why whole food supplements make so much more sense than isolated vitamins, minerals, or phytochemcials. A single whole food contains anywhere from dozens to hundreds of dietary phytochemicals … most of which we haven’t even identified yet! It’s pretty certain, though, that all these DPCs have a synergistic effect on one another.
NEWS YOU CAN USE: Quercetin boosts effectiveness of anti-herpes drug.
In a Hungarian study done in the 90’s, researchers showed that quercetin boosts the effect of anti-viral drug acyclovir (used to treat herpes). This study tested isolated quercetin. You can learn more about the study here.
Given the information in today’s feature article above, it would be interesting to see what would happen if acyclovir were used alongside concentrated apple extract (like Dr. Liu used in his experiment) or apple peel powder.
Takeaway point >>> If you’re taking acyclovir, be sure to include quercetin-rich foods (such as apples or onions) in your diet, or take AppleBoost pure apple peel powder.
